However, the convention center was huge, therefore it may have been just that it was more spread out. As usual, some vendors were raving and some were complaining. More so than any other show in quite some time, the pricing of specials was very aggressive and focused on A merchandise. I dropped more money than I had intended! On another note, dealers were treated to an earthquake in LA during the show. Happened at the ATUG meeting, while Triad was presenting highlights of Level 20, etc. Peggy Ward literally shook the earth were her comments! Beyond that, did anyone see any real interesting new items? Suggest that all show attendees list one really new item and vendor that they saw at the shows. It's difficult for everyone to get everywhere during a show. This should be helpful to all stores. 2. Show attendance in general over the years has been on decrease. Due to a number of reasons such as more stores buying out of warehouse every day, discouragement of buying drop shipments, cost of attending both in transportation/lodging and extra store woman/man power cost. 3. Please do not think that the manufacturer's do this out of the goodness of their heart. When you're negotiating a program with co-op's / distributors, show particpation cost is always lurking in the back of your mind. 4. Are the co-op's / distributors addressing E-commerce's growth and it's impact on these shows? Why do store owners have to see the same stuff every four/six months? Semi-annual shows were intended to have seasonal goods reviewed and economically ordered for the following seasons. Unfortunately they have turned into profit centers for the Co-op's (common knowledge among manufacturers). ------=_NextPart_000_000A_01BD7423.9EB23B40-- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Apr 1998 13:49:24 -0400 From: Bill Round Subject: Central Ship --=====================_893972964==_ Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Dear Folks, I am getting used to Edura Pro Email software. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to add addresses. That means it is easy and obvious to a 12 year old, or it could be a bad sign... Here are some items to know for TruServ Central Ship: 1. The "800" number is 888-881-7447. The "trouble-free" line is 1-815-943-5272. 2. Green-bar "A-copies" are always produced at the regional distribution center. These are separate from the warehouse and "hub" a-copies. If you are missing one or more, call the RDC to get one as soon as you can. 3. Central ship merchandise is shippped 24 to 48 hours after your weekly (or biweekly) order deadline. 4. The merchandise is shipped with a packing slip sometimes called a "contents list." This may be some or all of the skus on the corresponding A-copy. 5. The A-copy may read that a line was billed as a quantity of 10. The packing slip may give a quantity shipped of zero. Look for the credit on the following week's Central Ship A-copy. If it does not appear, file a normal claim with the RDC. 6. Packing slips will accompany all mixed cartons (?), but may not be in full-case cartons. 7. Ship laters and mark-outs are handled as they are handled with regular A-copies. 8. CENTRAL SHIP A-COPIES ARE SEPARATED FROM THE WAREHOUSE A-COPIES BY THE DESIGNATION "ups" IN THE UPPER LEFT-HAND CORNER OF THE PAGE. 9. Merchandise shipping boxes will have a TruServ Central Ship barcode label. This label will have the A-copy invoice number on it. Match this to the A-copy. Price tags, if you use them, also have this number. The A-copy invoice number is the date the invoice was produced followed by a three-digit number. 10. The source of A-copy download information is: The CIS data feed for the TruServ Member Communications System (MCS). The Triad ERP reads and processes this information. 11. For Triad Members: ERP will have all sorts of interesting things on it. Use the A-copy listings on the tail end of the report as a check-list to make sure all the a-copies for the order deadline are accounted for. 13. C/S items are listed on the ERP. 14. Don't receipt post the Central Ship (C/S) items with your regular weekly order RRP unless you have considered the consequences. Most people think it best to reject C/S from the order before posting. These are then kept on a separate purchase order until the merchandise physically comes in. Watch out for double postings and duplicate orders. A separate purchase order using the C/S a-copies will minimize these. 15. Remember, if you receipt post your C/S items along with your regular weekly order merchandise, you will first have system QOH's for merchandise not physically in the store. This merchandise will subsequently fail to arrive in direct proportion to warehouse demand, how urgently the item is needed by your customer, or it's over-stock cost value when you double order.... 16. This program was designed to remove slow-moving skus from regional distribution centers and reduce over-all TruServ inventory investment. As long as the system is continually refined and adjustments made, we should come out ahead. Let's hope transportation costs remain cheap... The reaction to the film was very interesting in the respect that the film spurred discussions and thoughts amongst the employees. I did show them the managerial part as well as the employee part because I felt they should all learn to be managers. Unfortunately, I only allotted 30 minutes (maybe just as well so that they can review the ideas on their own). I am curious if anybody else has used the film, seen it or even plan to use the film with their employees. From my interpretation, he was laying the groundwork so that there will be no surprises since like the telephone companies, TS is running out of SKU numbers under the current 6 digit method. He did mention a period of (probably) within 2 years -- can anybody ever pin him down? Just think, TS will be experts at convertion by then with CTC and SST being changed to 6 digits (and now the idea of doing it again to 8 digits). I hope will be scanning 100% by then (if MASS laws allow us). I don't understand the big deal with numbers. When we were last 'running out of numbers', we just went to a second check digit scheme to double the possible available numbers. This means that now we are using 2 out of the 10 possible sixth digits, so we have approximately 200,000 of the possible 1,000,000 numbers possible from six digits. If we need more, just use a third arithmetic combination of the first 5 digits to come up with another 100,000 numbers. It would mean that a random set of 6 digits would have a 3 in 10 chance of 'hitting' a good number, but 7 out of 10 times, it would not match a TS IBM number .... as we get more electronically oriented, the chance of miss entering an IBM number drops, so a 30% chance of hitting one doesn't seem to be too much heavier odds than the 20% chance we now have??!! Is my logic wrong? It sure seems to me that it beats heck out of scrapping the 200,000 numbers we now use!! (But then, I've always been pissed every time TS changes an IBM number). It seems that Bob J and crew most need to put their energies at making TS able to use more than one UPC code for each SKU! I'm assuming that we will soon see an electronic download of all the new UPC / SKU combinations that we were promised in Dallas at the Triad user group meeting .... today, I personally responded to an emergency call from the check stand 4 times to run and track down the correct IBM number for items that a customer was waiting to buy, but could not be referenced in my Triad!! Most of our sku's were based on their 7 digit skus. We had about 15000 sku's to change to Jensen Distributions 8 digits. After about a year of working on that, my dad decided to change over to Cotter & Co. We had about 7000 sku's changed from 7 digits to 8 digits. So we started changing the 7 digits and 8 digits to 6 digits. After a year, we were advised by Jensen Distribution that we could no longer send our orders in via our Triad system until we upgraded the system to handle their new software. A call to Triad informed us that $18,000 would about cover the upgrade. So we just quit ordering from Jensen Distribution and changed their 8 digit sku's over to Cotter's as they came up on the RSO's. No problem since we were eventually going to get the majority of our stock from Cotter. We now have 18000 sku's with about 15000 of them Cotter's. I wouldn't think that they would have to scrap the 6 digits and change them all. Why couldn't they just add 7 digit sku's when they actually run out of 6 digit sku's (if it actually happens). I have 4 digit on up to 10 digit sku's living in harmony on our system. I shudder to think of changing sku's again. I have an assistant mgr who swears he'll leave before he goes through another sku change. If TS really wants to be a retailer's co-op, they would allow any number of digits in an sku. That way they could keep sku's for complete lines of manufacturers without requiring the manufacturers to conform to 6 digits. IE: Hillman Fasteners sku's. It would be nice to order manufacturers products through Cotter using the mfg's sku's. I don't believe that changing the sku's to the upc code would be any better than changing to 8 digits. I already have duplicate upc's for different products in my store. Not many, but if it happens in my little store, it must happen more often at other stores. Also, TS was talking about phasing out redundant suppliers and possibly cutting back on the number of different sku's for the same product (such as electric water heaters with different sku's for different DC's). Wouldn't those acts eliminate the need to go to an 8 digit sku? Enough of my pratter. I propose that TruServ use Chinese pictographic characters as skus. There are lots of them. They take years to master, are unfathomable by anybody except native-born Chinese speakers and scholars, and have fine differentiations in meaning. The language has a special characteristic in that it has been fairly stable for thousands of years... unlike our current sku system. A runner-up might be Hebrew, another fairly stable language. I'm told that a resurrected King David could order coffee quite easily in Jerusalem or parts of New York City. Both languages have a scholarly nature to them requiring intensive study.... just like our current sku system. If one digit of an sku is a checksum digit then a six digit sku scheme allows 99999 different nuumbers. An eight digit scheme allows 9,999,999 different numbers. I put the commas in deliberately to make the number more readable. If I had used 9999999 instead you would have a hard time identifying the number. The trouble, as far as I am concerned, is that the more digits you have in your sku the more errors you will have entering them. An eight digit scheme almost dictates scanning for accuracy and timeliness. Also how large will the price tags be, or how small the sku number? As I get older my arms are getting shorter and reading small digits is nearly impossible without a magnifying glass or a telescopic holder. I would far prefer that rather than go to an eight digit sku scheme, that TS completely rethink it's philosophy. I think it would make more sense for them to use, internally, the upc numbers, but allow us to use our own sku numbers. I do not need nor want eight digit sku's. Why not come up with a system that allows me to use whatever sku scheme I want and only use their sku when transmitting my order. I already do that on many of my items, reducing the most popular items to, in some cases, two digit sku's. Ex. 1/2" sweat 90 degree elbows are "09". Why do we allow TS to decide how we will transmit our orders to them and how we will sell goods. What would your customers say if you told them that from now on they would have to tell you your skus when they wanted products? "1/2" sweat 90 degree elbows? Do you mean 123456789?" How long would we be in business if we placed demands on our customers like those being placed on us by TS? +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Richard Filion rhfil@nh.ultranet.com Filion Lumber 603-659-3361 Newmarket, N.H. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 08 May 1998 16:23:26 -0400 From: Nancy Badger Subject: sku change to 8 As a former SERVISTAR Store which converted to True Value, we have already ben through the horror of changing skus. After it was done we went to scanning and we had our store up and running and perfect. Price changes took 30-45 minutes instead of 2 days. Now, I have to grab things out of the Cotter totes that look 'new', match them best as I can by description, write the sku on them, then scan them to find most do not scan. Then I add them to the sku, and wait for the next 'sub'. At least this week most of the items were marked 'sub' on the pick ticket. I believe I must go through every 4' section soon and look for items that don't match the scan tag and see if they are 'new' replacements (as in Greenfield drill bits) or subs (as in Vt. American labels). I do not see how any warehouse can consider changing skus until all the 'dump stuff' has been removed. Some have mentioned using the UPC as the sku as it is a long number. (Yes, Glenn, you did!) Again, this will only work when the Sku stays the same. However, this week I received a box of Poloroid 600 film, and a box of Poloroid 600 Platinum film. Although my new goods have arrived they are still palletized awaiting the arrival of more energy. I need to sort out a few things before I tackle the change. I hope to ascertain whether there is some way for me to transmit my order to ServiStar and receive bin and price stickers. They would look much better than my own output. I am not familiar with TrueValue's computer capabilities. Specifically, I am not familiar with what pricing sticker options that system allows. We, ServiStar, actually have a number of different options, ranging from using the ServiStar suggested retail to creating our own retail with any number of different programs including, the one I prefer, just transmitting our retail price with our order and receiving price stickers and bintags with our suggested retail. Does TrueValue offer such retail pricing options? The reason I ask, he said, finally getting to the subject, is that it seems to me that if the ServiStar computer has the ability to capture my retail price and print price stickers with that information, then it should be possible to do the same thing with my sku. In other words, such a capability would negate forever any further discussion of sku changes. TruServ could have their own sku numbers and each and every one of us could have our own. As long as somewhere, on our computers, probably, a reference system existed. Triad already has such a feature. I use the MAP table extensively. I believe that it shold not require a great deal of effort to enable our computers to transmit to our suppliers both our stocking sku and their stocking sku and then receive our price stickers and bintags with our skus. I do like your logic that if they can do that, then why can they not also print your sku number? but for some reason your logic escapes them on this one. My method for getting around that problem for years was to print my own labels. The Triad would transmit the Cotter sku that I had cross referenced in MAP, and when I downloaded ERP, I had the PO re-sequenced to match their invoice, then I would print the labels. This way the labels were pretty easy to match up to the product. It got even easier when we went to barcode scanning and all I had to worry about was the bin labels. So like the song says: You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need. If you doubt me, check it out with your Triad CER. Hope this helps. Now, Chicagoland is doing a "back-step" and calling in all these people back to Chicagoland against many protest especially from New England. The logic of putting these people in the field was very good because that person needs to be in the field getting (herding) the dealers together, actively seeking out local opportunities to capture (sales and advertising $$) and help supervise the tanglement of the regional and individual flyers. How can that person do this work in Chicagoland and be successful?? Granted in some areas, these people are still developing or need to be replace, but in the other areas they are very successful. He would be greatly hampered timewise if stuck in Chicagoland and must depend on "Day- Trips" to his locale. What will they end up doing in Chicagoland -- become like the Regional Buying Managers --> glorified key punchers!. There too the Regional Managers is another program that ended because Chicagoland felt they could do the job better in Chicago -- so that crew ended up as key punches and a loss to us in Siberia. When Coast members were told they would be switching from 7 to 6 digit sku's, they immediately posed the "future expansion" issue. Coast members asked over and over, how can 6 digits be enough? And they were told over and over, "do the math... there are an astronomical amount of sku's available with six digits, the need for seven digits is a myth." Well, I guess with the new math things have changed? If we need to switch, stop right now and let the Coast people keep there sku's and let everyone else go through the hellish nightmare we are facing. I am sorry, but what ever happened to foresight and common sense? Like you said, do the math, how many items do we really need to stock in our warehouses? Let's eliminate those non movers, invest the money in inventory that turns and keep with the 6 digits. Okay, on the other side of the fence. If the change is imminent, please listen to us lowly coast owners for once... In they days of a customer based co-op, every department had it's own series of sku's. With in that department, certain finelines also had unique prefixes. For example, any seven digit sku beginning with 1 was a housewares item, and any seven digit sku beginning with 111 was a rubbermaid item. This allowed for rapid identification of an item by sku number only and also assisted greatly in the checking in process from the back room. So my point is, if you must change the six digit sku's to seven digits, make the change consistent, as it applies to your fineline catalogs. This will make the transition relatively painless. By utilizing a uniform fineline number conversion method, any store owner or employee will know that if he is holding a six digit hardware item, he should simply add a 3 to the front of the number to get the new seven digit number, or if it is a six digit housewares item, add a 1 to the front of the number to get the new seven digit number. That way a number can be converted through a simply thought process rather than a major cross reference. Thus allowing store owners to refrain from costly re-tagging and re-labeling. Okay, enough small talk, I have a conversion to tend to and the RIS team is waiting... So our own skus could be made up of five, six, eight, 16, numeric or even alphanumeric or, for Bill Rounds, chinese pictographic characters(I really have to find some reason to go visit his store). It would not matter what was used at the local retail level, as long as the MAP file was set up to provide a conversion to whatever TruServ decided they wanted to use. Or, we could both use as standard interface the UPC numbers. Then TruServ IS could glory in changing the number of digits as many times as they wanted and it would not affect us at all. However, I would suggest that the entire IS budget be fixed, including salaries, so that excessive costs would have to come out of their skins instead of our rebate. All we would have to do is get IS and Triad to agree on changing the transmission file so that both our sku and the standard are transmitted. That should not be very difficult to do and require little effort at retail level. And then they could also print price stickers with our sku numbers as easily as they now print them with our retail price. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Richard Filion rhfil@nh.ultranet.com Filion Lumber 603-659-3361 Newmarket, N.H. ------------------------------ End of hardlines Digest V01 #27797 ********************************** hardlines Digest Thu, 14 May 1998 00:01:16 -0400 V01 #27798 Today's topics: 'Triad Async Modems' ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 13 May 1998 17:43:20 -0400 From: "Listmanager" Subject: Triad Async Modems From: "Richard Filion" I seem to be having a great deal of trouble with my Triad's async modems. Their response? "Gee, I don't know who you should call... maybe someone in Chicago?" I won't bore you with the details of 400 items of which the retails were lowered far below cost, or the confusion that set in when the RIS team packed up all our light bulbs, without inventorying them first, and left us with nothing to sell for eight or ten business hours. Or the fact that we were told not to check in our plan-o-grams because the RIS guys would do it, and when they showed up they had no means, nor any intention, of checking the merchandise in. And let's not mention the 75 items we need to cross reference because they didn't have a good match. Before ICV, the clerk would swipe the card in the verifone, enter the amount, and then keypunch the info into the Triad POS. So they would be doing something during the entire process. Then they would pull off the two different receipts, write the journal number from POS on the credit card slip, and staple the two receipts together for the customer. So if you add the time it takes to write the journal number and staple the tickets together, the total times are about the same. If you add in the occasional problem with balancing EOD (i.e. Verifone total vs RCK/RDS total), then ICV looks even better. I spent many a night pulling out journal rolls trying to find the mistyped sale total to bring everything into balance. I think a lot of the delay at POS is from the procedure the clerks follow. The cashiers need to ring the sale, swipe the card, and then bag the items. They need to be friendly with the customers, strike up a conversation, etc. Time drags when everyone is standing around waiting for the response, so experiment with different sequences of actions for a sale until you find the one that keeps folks moving. Just my two cents... Dear Folks, This season's Blue Basset Award (BBA) goes to the Lucky Line Company. I have established this award to recognize excellence in invoicing. Lucky Line makes (or packages) key chains, fobs, and knick-knacks. Lucky Line produces a packing slip which is returned in the same line order as it was faxed from the store. This makes it easy to compare and post. It is readable. It states what has been discontinued at the beginning of the invoice. It has the costs at which the store will be billed. This allows fast posting for accurate gross profit computations for POS computations. This accurate info will flow all the way to the P/L statement. It's very handy. The picker writes what is picked in ink, in whole numbers, on the original, and in English. My purchase order number was printed on the packing slip. Lucky Line lost points because they failed to provide a total value for the order, an important number to balance against. Balancing helps find junk and chaos which will eventually contaminate financial information. Special mention to initials at the end of the order: Picker, HER (?); Packer, PF; and KAREN, the order entry person. I would feel comfortable throwing this order out to the floor without detailed checking. The line sells well. I will mark it up next week by 5%. That always makes me feel warm and fuzzy. The advantage of ASY vs BISY is that one can re-load those files again after resetting COTUTL back, purging the RP file using ROF and using the hidden option A in the last line of questions in ERP. Before doing ERP, the clerk should check the COTUTL Seq # in case of errors in the download, so that resetting is made easier. If you do the ERP from a QUE that was built from Lev 17 back, you should rebuild it to add the new options that came in from Lev 18. Another hint, use the hidden Option A all the time, too. That's it for that recipe comment. The "basic" communication procedures are really not too bad, but changing from one to another can lead to all sorts of problems. Someone at TruServ and/or Triad should be coordinating the changeover for folks going from one system to another. Rick's point was that the new system is easier to correct mistakes. In the past, you had to call TruServ to have them reset your settings. The "new" (not really new... several years old) system allows the store to make changes on the local system in order to get another transmission. I think we all realize that this type of stuff should be transparent to the user... or prompted all the way. Hidden options should not be needed... the system should prompt each step... "I see you're downloading your invoices... which PO's should I reconcile this invoice against?" etc. Things have progressed quite a bit, even though it might not seem that way. How many folks remember dialing into the Cotter BBS to download files. Jay ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 May 1998 18:20:47 -0800 From: "John O'Daniel" Subject: Re: hardlines Digest - V01 #27803 Hi group, Well, It's been a wild week beginning with Thursday the 14th. At noon, we had a power outage and instead of the battery backups holding power to our computer so it could shut down, our computer lost power and crashed. When the power came back, I brought the system up and had to go into OSPREY and rebuild the data files (I wish I had a manual that explained all the OSPREY functions). We started entering transactions and pow...our system crashed again for some reason that we can't figure out. After bringing the system up again, we operated for about an hour when it crashed again. When I looked at the power hook up, I noticed that the computer was plugged into the surge protector which was plugged into the UPS. I moved the surge protector between the UPS and the power and plugged the computer directly into the UPS. I brought the system back up and rebuilt the data files. Everytime I rebuilt files, I lost records but never figured out which records were lost. Then the invoice printer would print a partial invoice and then hang, causing the terminal that was sending to it to hang also. I would have to go to another terminal to QUITCRT the hung terminal and we would try to reprint the invoice. The invoice would print with only one line of items sold and the remaining items would not print but the total would be correct on the bottom of the statement. After a few times like that, I took the computer back down and turned off the power for a few minutes. Then I brought the system back up. No problems for the rest of that day. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the system worked great. Monday morning, when trying to do a charge, we got "UNABLE TO SAVE...PRESS ENTER TO CONTINUE FS=98. Taking the computer down and powering off and then bringing it back up didn't do a thing. When we tried printing charges, none of the items sold would show on the invoice and the total would be $0. So we did the charges on hand slips and only did the cash sales on the computer. When we tried to print out save orders, the printer would hang. Switching out printers didn't help so the problem had to be in the computer. About every 4th or 5th cash sale, the two tils at the front would go to login and we had to log back in and redo the cash sale. Our tils were right on DCD at the end of the day. Since we were not on Triad support, we couldn't call them. I called a few people that know the Triad system and got some suggestions but none seemed to do anything. Finally, we relented and called Triad and initiated the procedure for going back on support. Our field engineer told me to take the system down and pull all the boards and connectors and reseat them. He said that a poor connection may have fried one of the executable programs. After doing that, he said, re-install level 18 so that the executable programs would be replaced. So, at 8pm last night, I went back to work and shut the computer down, pulled the boards, vacuumed the inside, reseated the boards and connectors, re-installed level 18 and brought the system back up. I tried a charge transaction and got the same error message. At 10pm I tucked my tail between my legs and slunk home. At 7:30am today, I went in and put a call out to Triad that we still weren't working properly. At 8am our front til people put in some charges that they had put on a hand slip yesterday to try out the system. VOILA! Everything worked great! No errors! They started entering transactions at a high rate of speed. The printer never hung. The terminals didn't go to login. Everything worked great! The only thing I can think of that happened is that automatic maintenance that happens at 2am daily, cleaned up whatever problem or bug was creating our problem. Well, we are now on Triad support again at $2000+ to start back up and $380+ a month for support. Pretty scarry day...yesterday! I think I should be able to sleep tonight. I wish I knew what caused the problem and how we can fix it in the future without waiting for automatic maint. at 2am. As for Trex Decking, we brought a unit of 5/4 x 4 and 5/4 x 6 12' in for stock and haven't sold any. I think that our biggest problem is that we don't market it good enough. I need to build a small deck with it so that the contractors can see it in action. Two more of our summer help arrived today. One is returning from last year and starts Thursday. The other has never worked for us and has just received her Masters Degree. She started at 9 am and by noon was checking customers faster than I do (which doesn't say too much....the clerks would rather me not work the tils because I am pretty slow and am a stickler about going back and getting the correct sku's...and I like to visit...and and and). Anyway, our new girl is working out great! Well, enough of my pratter. EASTERN TIME Regarding the Galaxy IV domestic U.S. communications satellite. "At approximately 6:00 p.m. Eastern time on May 19, the Galaxy IV satellite experienced an anomaly within its on-board spacecraft control processor(SCP), the primary system responsible for pointing the spacecraft relative to earth. The automatic switch to a backup unit failed as well. As a result of the SCP anomalies, the satellite began to rotate, thereby losing its fixed orientation. While PanAmSat is able to receive telemetry from and send commands to the satellite, full operation of the satellite's attitude control system has not been achieved at this time. PanAmSat has deactivated the communications payload at this time to conserve power. The satellite is in a stable, safe mode, and engineers at Hughes Space and Communications Co., which built the spacecraft, are examining all pertinent data to determine the causes of and potential solutions to the anomalies. PanAmSat has advised its Galaxy IV customers that the satellite will remain out of service until Wednesday morning at the earliest. We are helping customers with short-term restoration plans for their satellite transmission requirements. In addition, given the size and flexibility of PanAmSat's global satellite network, we are examining long-term options in the event that we cannot reactivate the satellite, including the use of available capacity on other PanAmSat spacecraft with domestic U.S. coverage. "PanAmSat is deploying all possible resources within our company and the satellite communications industry to ensure continuous, high-quality transmissions for their video and telecommunications services." ====================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jack Swift jswift@up.net N8WAV@W8YY.#UPMI.MI.USA.NA 47.119N 88.572W Swift True Value Hardware 402 Shelden Ave. Houghton, MI 49931 906-482-0530, 0531, 7766 Alpha Phi Omega Epsilon Lambda Chapter Advisor Houghton County Amateur Radio Emergency Service Dereliction IS! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 May 1998 09:14:44 -0400 From: "John Fix 3rd" Subject: Hardlines Online Chat Now that the Webboard is operational again, I'd like to set up another online chat. John john3@cornells.com Cornell's True Value Hardware - www.cornells.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 May 1998 15:12:35 -0500 From: jack swift Subject: TSN down for a week... this is an excerpt of an FCC request to 'replace' G4 with G6.... looks like we'll be without TSN for a week... In its request, PanAmSat states that on the evening of May 19, 1998, Galaxy IV experienced a failure of its on board spacecraft control processor which is responsible for pointing the satellite relative to the earth. This failure caused the satellite to rotate and lose the fixed orientation that is essential to functional operation. PanAmSat states that its attempts to correct this failure were unsuccessful and as a result it deactivated the communications payload to conserve power. PanAmSat proposes to drift its Galaxy VI spacecraft from its authorized orbit location of 74o W.L. to the 99o W.L. position where it will resume operations. Prior to the drift, Galaxy VI customers will be off-loaded. During the drift, which PanAmSat states will take about one week, Galaxy VI will not provide any communication services. PanAmSat states that Galaxy VI will be able to provide the services formerly provided by Galaxy IV. It further asserts that no risk of interference to adjacent satellites is anticipated since Galaxy VI has the same frequency and polarization plan as Galaxy IV and operates at power levels lower than those used on Galaxy IV. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jack Swift jswift@up.net N8WAV@W8YY.#UPMI.MI.USA.NA 47.119N 88.572W Swift True Value Hardware 402 Shelden Ave. Houghton, MI 49931 906-482-0530, 0531, 7766 Alpha Phi Omega Epsilon Lambda Chapter Advisor Houghton County Amateur Radio Emergency Service Dereliction IS! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ------------------------------ End of hardlines Digest V01 #27806 ********************************** hardlines Digest Sat, 23 May 1998 00:02:11 -0400 V01 #27807 Today's topics: 'True Value Paint Advertisement' ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 22 May 1998 06:02:40 -0400 From: "Listmanager" Subject: True Value Paint Advertisement From: "Rick Schwartz" Hi: Just saw the "New" True Value Paint Ad on the Weather Station. I have a customer who is concerned that the EZ-Kare and Value-Line "whites" won't be the same "white" as he has been using. If this is true, and there isn't a subsitute for 355-339 (which has been discontinued), does anyone have a formula to add to either "White" or Pastel Base to create the same white as 355-339? == "It's just not necessary to do extraordinary things to produce extraordinary results."
