Hardlines Hardware

What exactly is involved in running Hardlines Digest?  What sort of equipment and software is required to run a web server and mailing list?  Here's a quick "behind the scenes" list of some of the stuff we use for our Internet services.

Dell Poweredge 2400 Server - Our main web server has 1gbmb RAM and a 27gb hard drive. We run Website Professional and Cold Fusion on the server and host all our web sites (www.cornells.com, www.big-box.com, etc.) on this machine.  All our pages process through Cold Fusion which allows us to create a lot of dynamic content that automatically updates based on the date, time, user cookies, etc.

Dell Poweredge 2300 Server - This server has 1gb RAM and a 27gb hard drive as well.  We run our mail server (ModusMail) and our database server (SQL Server) on this machine as well as our Domain Name Service.  Our mail server has a neat scanning setup that automatically scans every incoming and outgoing email for viruses.  The server updates virus definitions twice daily, and emails a nightly summary of virus and spam activity to the system admin.

Dell Poweredge 600 - Our newsest server with 1gb RAM and a 36gb hard drive.  This machine runs our Lyris List Server which is what powers Hardlines Digest.  Lyris connects to a SQL Server database which stores the subscriber info and all the messages.

Other Hardware - We have a Cisco router connected to the Internet via a T-1 line from uuNet (Worldcom). Our webcams are Axis Webcams that cost about $500 each.  All our machines have Norton Anti-Virus installed and we update the virus definitions daily via an automatic schedule.  Our network is protected with a Sonicall firewall.
